Thought for the Day 10.0

"Twenty years after my own graduation, I have come gradually to understand that the liberal arts cliché about teaching you how to think is actually shorthand for a much deeper, more serious idea: learning how to think really means learning how to exercise some control over how and what you think. It means being conscious and aware enough to choose what you pay attention to and to choose how you construct meaning from experience. Because if you cannot exercise this kind of choice in adult life, you will be totally hosed."
(The late David Foster Wallace in a commencement address delivered at Kenyon College, 2005. Cited in Alan Jacobs, The Pleasures of Reading in an Age of Distraction, p. 85)

  1. What a great thought for the day! I agree that knowledge has to be practiced, not only memorized. Choosing how and what we think are critical.

It is great that you are sharing your knowledge with others here. You are truly making a difference in the world. Keep doing what you are doing!

    To your magnificence!
